The prosecutor's office said one man is dead and two other people suffered serious injuries. The names of the victims were not released.

The deceased man was identified later Friday as a 35-year-old Jersey City resident. Investigators say he was one of two occupants of a Nissan Xterra that was travelling south near JFK Boulevard and Fairmount Avenue around 4:20 a.m. when it collided head-on with another vehicle.

The driver of that other vehicle, a Chevy Impala taxicab, is a 47-year-old Jersey City man. He was in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

The third victim, the second occupant in the Xterra, is a 32-year-old man who was also listed in critical but stable condition.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip on the Hudson County Prosecutor’s official website at http://www.hudsoncountyprosecutorsofficenj.org/homicide-tip/.
